Make your own Gummy Bears

Friday, March 11, 2016

I am always looking for natural treats for my kids that aren't filled with artificial colors and flavors and if I can sneak in other beneficial ingredients- even better! I decided to try making my own gummy bears from this mold. It was so simple and literally I spent 30 minutes and refilled it about 6 times and ended up with a bowl of gummy bears made with organic superfruit juice and grass fed gelatin. I snuck some powdered probiotics in there too but they got a little frothy from that so I may not add that every time. Here is a short clip of how simple it is. Ignore my old rusty pan please.
I didn't really have a recipe but depending on the amount of gelatin you use, the consistency will vary between jello shapes and actual gummy bears.
I used Trader Joe's to the power of 7 organic juice blend and Great Lakes unflavored gelatin.
I used one cup of juice to 1/4 cup of gelatin and that made it firmer than a jello but not quite as chewy as a typical gummy bear. My kids loved them and I imagine they would love anything shaped like a cute bear! Next time I plan to add even more gelatin to get more of a gummy bear texture especially since this gelatin is packed with good protein and amino acids. You could also make gummy vitamins if you had vitamins in liquid form (vitamin D3 would be an easy one).
